Ohio Guardian ad Litem Education Program Continuing Education Series Information

Register for a Continuing GAL Education Course

Superintendence Rule 48 requires that guardians ad litem complete three hours of continuing GAL education every calendar year after completing the initial six hour pre-service course.

Who Should Attend

This course is open to attorney and non-attorney guardians ad litem who have successfully completed a pre-service course. Please refer to the chart below to determine whether you should attend a Guardian ad Litem Continuing Education course during this calendar year.

GALs who completed a pre-service course: Need to take a Continuing Education course every calendar year beginning:
Before or during calendar year 2011 Calendar year 2012
During calendar year 2012 Calendar year 2013
During calendar year 2013 Calendar year 2014

Is there a cost for this course?

The Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College pre-service education course is available free of charge for a limited time.

Is this course approved for CLE or CPE?

All courses are approved for three hours of regular CLE from the Commission on Continuing Legal Education and three hours of CPE for counselors and social workers from the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Attendance at the entire course is necessary to receive a certificate of completion.

How to register

  1. Go to http://judicialecademy.ohio.gov/
  2. Select “Login or create an account” at the upper right corner of the page. 
    • Ohio Attorneys: Login using your Ohio Attorney Registration number and Attorney Services password.
      • If you forgot your password, click the “forgot your password?” link. Follow the instructions under “I am an Ohio Attorney”; click “Go” and your password will be e-mailed to you.
    • Non-Attorneys: If you were already sent a Judicial eCademy username and password, or have previously created your own, please log on with those credentials.
      • If you do not have a username and password, go to “New User? Register.” follow the instructions to create your own credentials. Your request will be processed within 3 business days and you will be sent an e-mail with your approval status.
  3. Once you have logged in to Judicial eCademy, please complete the following steps:
    • Click the “Course Search” button on the top of the page.
    • Scroll down the page past the "search parameters" section
    • Select the course date/location you wish to attend, and click “Register online.”
  4. Upon completion of your registration, a specific e-mail confirmation will be sent detailing the course you registered for (note: this is not to be confused with the e-mail confirmation you receive when setting up your Judicial eCademy account)..

Registration will not be available at the door. Pre-registration is necessary and walk-in registrants will not be admitted.

Please note that you may only attend one LIVE (in-person) three-hour Supreme Court of Ohio Continuing Education Course per year and one ONLINE three-hour Supreme Court of Ohio Continuing Education Course.

Cancellations

To cancel your registration, log into Judicial eCademy, search for the course for which you are registered and select “unregister.” If you cannot attend the course, you MUST notify us by noon three days prior to the course. Late cancellations and “no shows” are still costs incurred by the Supreme Court and will cause other GALs to be closed out due to space limitations.
