Webinar to Feature Information about new Adult Probation Officer Education Standards

The Ohio Supreme Court’s Judicial College will offer a webinar on Tuesday to inform judges and chief probation officers about new adult probation officer education standards.

Developed by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in partnership with the Ohio Supreme Court, the minimum training standards were a requirement of House Bill 86 with goals of standardizing training, reducing recidivism and increasing public safety.

The webinar will provide an overview of the new continuing education requirements for existing probation officers that begins January 1, 2013 and the minimum training standards for new adult probation officers hired on or after January 1, 2014.

Kris Steele, education program manager with the Judicial College, said the courses that will comprise the curriculum are under development now.

“Our intention is to deliver as much of the training as we can online to save costs,” Steele said. “We also hope to deliver some of the coursework in-person at regional sites.”

Steele and Christopher Galli, assistant chief in the Bureau of Community Sanctions at DRC, will serve as faculty for the webinar.

The one-hour session will begin at noon Tuesday, April 17. To access the webinar, go to this link: http://go.scoh.gov/webinar-04-17-12.
