Justice Lanzinger Speaks at Police Memorial

In a moving tribute today to fallen law enforcement officers from northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Judith Ann Lanzinger spoke of their dedication, service and sacrifice.

Coinciding with the annual observance of National Police Week, the Toledo area memorial recognized officers killed in the line of duty through the reading of the roll of fallen officers. The ceremony also included an 18-gun salute.

Justice Lanzinger served as this year’s keynote speaker. “American law enforcement officers are ambassadors of freedom, liberty and order,” she said. “We may neglect to thank them until circumstances force us to acknowledge how important their gift of service is as they put their fellow citizens first and themselves second day after day after day. While those who paid the ultimate price remain in our thoughts and prayers, along with their families, we must never forget the officers of today who continue to keep us safe.”

Now serving her second six-year term on the Supreme Court, Justice Lanzinger is the only person ever elected to every level of Ohio’s judiciary. The 150th Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio, she previously served on the Sixth District Court of Appeals for Ohio, the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas and the Toledo Municipal Court. Her varied judicial experience allows her a unique perspective of the state court system.
