Justice O'Donnell Remembers Peers at Memorial Program

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Terrence O’Donnell spoke at the 2012 Annual Greater Cleveland Bench-Bar Memorial Program on April 2 at the Howard M. Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse.

The program paid tribute to the 48 attorneys and judges from Cuyahoga County who passed away in 2011 including the late Ohio Supreme Court Justice Francis Edward Sweeney.

Other speakers at the memorial program included Judge Patricia A. Blackmon with the Eighth District Court of Appeals, Judge Nancy A. Fuerst with the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, and Judge Ronald B. Adrine with the Cleveland Municipal Court.

“It’s with great sadness that we come together to honor these great men and women,” Justice O’Donnell said. “The service they provided for thousands of Ohioans will never be forgotten.”

“The late Justice Sweeney was one of my good friends and colleagues. I know his legacy will be honored. He was a strong supporter of the rule of law when he served on the state Supreme Court,” Justice O’Donnell said.

Justice O’Donnell has been a member of the state judiciary for more than 25 years and has served on both the trial court and appellate court before being elected to the Supreme Court. He began his service on the Supreme Court in 2003 and was elected in 2004 and 2006. His current term will expire in December 2012.
