Justice O'Donnell Swears In Son

Supreme Court of Ohio Justice Terrence O’Donnell had the honor of swearing in his son, Michael P. O’Donnell, and the rest of the Rocky River City Council members on Jan. 3 at the David J. Cook Council Chambers at City Hall.

Michael P. O’Donnell was elected to Ward 3 of the Rocky River council in November.┬áThis is the second time Justice O’Donnell has sworn in his youngest son. The first is when Michael P. O’Donnell graduated from Cleveland State University’s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2004. The younger O’Donnell is a partner at Brouse McDowell in Cleveland.

Justice O’Donnell also administered the oath of office to Mayor Pamela E. Bobst. Bobst has been the mayor of Rocky River since June 2006. Justice O’Donnell also swore in Law Director Andrew D. Bemer Jr, Council President James W. Monran, and council members Thomas J. Hunt, John B. Shepherd, Anjanette Arabian Whitman, and David W. Furry. In addition to the mayor and council members, Justice O’Donnell swore in Municipal Court Judge Donna Congeni Fitzsimmons. She has served as Rocky River Municipal Court Judge since 1994.

“What an inimitable opportunity,” said Justice O’Donnell. “Not only is it an honor to swear in Michael, Mayor Bobst, and the rest of the Rocky River City Council members, but I believe, this is the first time a Supreme Court of Ohio Justice has sworn in the head of all three branches of government in Rocky River.”

Justice O’Donnell has been a member of the state judiciary for more than 25 years and has served on both the trial court and appellate court before being elected to the Supreme Court. He began his service on the Supreme Court in 2003 and was elected in 2004 and 2006. His current term will expire in December 2012.
